For your site to be identified on the Internet, it should have a domain name that best describes your brand. You can buy your very own domain from the likes of GoDaddy, G Domains, Namecheap... but you can perfectly do it from inside your Subbly website as well 😉

Some steps of the process of connecting your domain to your Subbly store can differ for a bit depending on the domain registrar you used to acquire your domain from but, in a nutshell, you'll always have to follow procedure listed below 👇

  • Start off from your Subbly dashboard and go to the Website Builder > Edit Active Theme section as in the picture below 👇
  • From your builder's admin, you'll need to go to the Dashboard as indicated on the left sidebar of your builder
  • Open the Domain app from the dashboard
  • From the window that's about to open, click on Connect Domain > Connect Existing Domain and provide your domain in the appropriate field in the following format: yourdomain.com
  • You'll be presented with 4 different A and 2 CNAME records that you'll need to replicate on your domain's DNS settings.

At this point, you'll need to copy the records as stated on the image above to your domain's control panel DNS settings. If you're not sure how to access DNS settings on your domain, please make sure to reach out to customer support reps on your domain registrar to help you through the process ❗

Additionally:

  • Make sure that you delete all excessive A/CNAME records as you'll need literally only the ones provided by Subbly ❗
  • Make sure that you clear all forwarding from your domain ❗

In the following sections, you'll find instructions on how to connect domain from GoDaddy, Namecheap or G Domains.

❗ 2 CNAMES are required. The remaining 4 A Records are recommended to be added to have fail over resolution, but if your Domain Provider doesn't support this number, just like Google Domains, you may add less than 4. ❗

  • Select Domain List from the left side menu.
  • Click the Manage button next to your domain.
  • Navigate to the Advanced DNS tab and click the Add New Record button in the Host Records section.
  • Select CNAME from the Type drop down and add two CNAME records provided by Subbly to complete the required fields.
  • Select A from the Type drop down and add four A records provided by Subbly to complete the required fields.
  • Click on the Save All Changes button each time you need to save the record.
  • Head back to your Website's Domain Manager and hit the 'Check' button to finalize the process.

If, after setting all these up and correctly, and you're still experiencing 404 Google error screen as in the picture below 👇, make sure to go back to your Domain settings on your Subbly and to click Check button several times so records can resolve and for the changes to propagate. Remember, your domain must be in Connected status on Subbly ❗❗

Not sure how to update records?

Remember that you'll need to renew your domain on an annual basis in order to retain it! We're not hosting your domain, even if you used Subbly to buy your domain in the first place ❗

Domain setup process differs from one domain registrar to another, so we have provided generic instructions for those with GoDaddy, Google Domains and Namecheap accounts. If you are still not sure how to update the records, we recommend contacting your registrar's support center for the most accurate information.

Alternatively, make sure to get in touch with our support team which will gladly help and assist with connecting this for you 😉
